Signs of possible terrorist activity

If you see or hear something unusual or suspicious, trust your instincts and report it. Any piece of information could be important. It is better to be safe and report. You can help police prevent terrorism and protect lives.

Weapons

Unusual interest in, attempts to acquire, or unexplained possession of firearms, ammunition or explosive materials.

Storage locations

Unusual use of garages, lock-ups, warehouses or residences for storing materials not consistent with the location.

Chemicals

Unusual purchases, quantities or combinations of chemicals, fertilisers or fuels with no obvious legitimate use.

Protective equipment

Unexplained acquisition of body armour, tactical gear or specialist protective equipment.

Suspicious funding

Large unexplained cash movements, fund-raising under false pretences, or transfers linked to extremist causes.

Multiple identities

Use of multiple names, forged documents, or attempts to obtain documents under false identities.

Surveillance

Unusual photographing, filming, sketching or note-taking around sensitive sites, crowds, infrastructure or transport hubs.

Transport

Suspicious use, hire or modification of vehicles, especially when paired with unusual storage or movement patterns.

Travel

Unexplained travel to or from regions of concern, especially when concealed from family, friends or employers.

Communication

Use of coded language, secretive communications, or sudden changes in communication habits linked to extremist views.

Computers

Sharing of extremist material, secretive online behaviour, or access to platforms known to promote violent extremism.

Suspicious packages

Unattended bags, parcels or items left in public places, on transport or near sensitive buildings.

Online terrorist activity

Content promoting violence, glorifying terrorism, encouraging violent extremism, or stirring hatred against religious or ethnic groups.
